Decluttering your home can be a huge undertaking, and it can be very difficult to know where to even begin. Now that spring has arrived and ‘spring cleaning’ is on people’s minds, April is a great time to have a go at doing some decluttering.

We’ve put together a 30-day challenge to get you started and give you direction. You can get this challenge as a printable (for free) here or at the end of this article.

Don’t be too hard on yourself and only do as much as you can. We’ve tried to assign the more time-intensive activities to weekends as many (not all) people don’t work weekends. Everyone’s situation is different. Even if you do just one or two items from the list, that’s still progress! For any task that’s too overwhelming, simply put a timer on it (15 minutes, 30 minutes, or whatever time you have that day). Progress, not perfection, is what we should all be after!

The May decluttering challenge will also be out at the end of April. So if you missed out on this one, stay tuned for the next one. By popular demand, we’ll make the May one easier (with only a couple tasks per week).

30 day calendar of daily decluttering tasks for april 2025

April 1 – Fill one bag with clutter from the house to donate.

April 2 – Toss expired items from your fridge and pantry.

April 3 – Clear out and organize your wallet and/or purse.

April 4 – Take 30 minutes to clear your email inbox. Set a timer and only do 30 minutes. This has a time limit on it as many people may have thousands of emails and this may be a daily task for a month.

April 5 – Donate clothes you haven’t worn in a year (if not needed). If your closet needs a deep clean and decluttering, this spring cleaning and decluttering checklist below specifically for the closet may help. Just do the tasks as and when you have time.

April 6 – Clear out and organize the kitchen cabinets.

April 7 – Organize your work desk.

April 8 – Organize paperwork into folders.

April 9 – Clear and organize the under-the-sink cabinets.

April 10 – Throw away any broken items. If you can (and want to) repair them, you should do that instead.

April 11 – Clear apps, photos, and files on your phone for 30 minutes. Again, set a timer and only do 30 minutes or the amount of free time you have for this task that day. We understand some people may need many hours for this.

April 12 – Organize your spice/shelf cabinet.

April 13 – Declutter and organize the kitchen utensils.

April 14 – Set a 15-minute timer and declutter as quickly as you can.

April 15 – Toss any broken dishes or glasses.

April 16 – Organize your shoes (and donate pairs if you want).

April 17 – Clean and reorganize the bathroom drawers.

April 18 – Declutter and organize the entryway.

April 19 – Declutter your Easter decorations. If you don’t have any decorations, you can take the day off or catch up on any of the previous tasks.

April 20 – Take 15 minutes to declutter and organize the living room. It’s also Easter! So, if you celebrate, take the day off to enjoy it with family and friends!

April 21 – Take 30 minutes to organize the files on your computer.

April 22 – Pick 5 items you no longer need and donate them.

April 23 – Declutter and organize your nightstands.

April 24 – Sort through your socks (throwing away ones without a pair).

April 25 – Get a cable and cord organizer.

April 26 – Clear out your car (including the trunk and glove box).

April 27 – Go through old photos and organize them. This may be a time-intensive task for many people so it’s specifically assigned to a Sunday/weekend. If you have a lot of photos, you can make that your own personal organizing challenge where you organize your photos (and we recommend digitizing them) for 30 minutes every day for a month (or however long it takes).

April 28 – Clear all flat surfaces in a room and return only what you want to keep.

April 29 – Take 15 minutes to declutter and organize your bedroom. Again, the idea is to set a timer for 15 minutes and just do what you can.

April 30 – Take 15 minutes to declutter and organize the kitchen counters. Again, just whatever you can do in 15 minutes.

And don’t forget to reward yourself with one of these day-off activities.
