March Decluttering & Organizing
A new season gives you a great opportunity to declutter, reset, and organize your home. Our March decluttering calendar focuses on daily tasks and simple small wins that, in time, will make a big difference.
We’ve themed each week, so that you can put particular focus on different rooms and areas of your house, rather than jumping between different rooms.
You can get both the monthly and weekly decluttering calendars as printables. Good luck with your March and spring decluttering! If some days you only do 5-10 minutes, it’s still progress and it all adds up.
Decluttering & Organizing
You’ll find the March decluttering month printable at the bottom of the article.

Week 1 (Visible Wins)

Set a 30-min timer and clear as many flat surfaces as you can.
Focus on big wins (e.g., kitchen counters, dining table, entryway table, nightstands, bathroom counters). Sort the items into: keep/donate/toss/relocate. Wipe the surfaces before returning the items.
Reset the entryway, keeping only the items you’ll need this spring.
Remove any winter items you’ll no longer need (e.g., winter hats, bulky coats, boots, gloves). Try to keep only items you’ll use frequently (e.g., everyday shoes, umbrella, one jacket). Add a small tray or create a spot for small items like keys and sunglasses.
Clear & organize the coffee table and entertainment center in the living room.
Clear everything and sort the items into: keep/donate/toss/relocate. Wipe the surfaces before returning the items you want to keep. For the entertainment center, use some cable organizers.
Walk through the house and pick 3 items to donate (or 3 to toss if broken).
Set a 15-min timer and think of easy wins like clothes you don’t wear, decor you don’t love, extra mugs, or broken items.
Walk through the house and pick 3 items that are out of place to return them where they belong.
You can either focus on just finding 3 items that are out of place, or you could set a timer for 15-20 min and find as many as you can. Focus on the simple wins (e.g., mugs, clothes, mail, charging cables, bags, blankets, accessories).
Set a 20-min timer and organize the bedroom.
Focus on visible wins like making the bed, clearing the nightstands, and putting away clothes. Think about whether there’s any decor you don’t like anymore or any items you want to donate or toss.
Replace winter decor with spring decor.
Store away heavy blankets and replace them with lighter ones. Look at the wall decor and consider whether to change any of it. Replace winter-scented candles with spring-scented ones (e.g., citrus, floral).

Week 2 (Closet)

Store away out-of-season items.
If the weather allows, move things you’ll no longer need (e.g., heavy coats, snow boots, thermal layers). You can use clear storage containers and label each one. If you keep everything in the same closet, you could simply move the out-of-season items to the back of the closet in the harder-to-reach areas.
Get your spring clothes out of storage / to the front of the closet.
Pick clothes you’ll wear often this season and move them to the front of the closet or to the closet areas that are easiest to access. You could arrange them by category (e.g., work, casual, special occasions), by color, or by type.
Remove clothes that are worn-out or don’t fit, and pick what to donate or toss.
You could set a timer to help you make some quick decisions. Start with clothes you haven’t worn in 12 months, clothes that are uncomfortable, and clothes that are worn-out/damaged. Create 3 piles: donate, toss, repair.
Toss broken hangers and ideally, change to all of the same hangers.
If you have the same hangers throughout the closet, it will look a lot more organized. Consider slim velvet hangers or wooden hangers. Toss any broken hangers and donate mismatched ones if upgrading your hangers.
Organize your accessories for the season.
Put away any out-of-season accessories (e.g., winter hats, gloves) and arrange your seasonal ones. Sort through one category at a time (e.g., bags, hats, scarves, belts). Consider some closet organization items such as drawer dividers, accessory trays, and scarf hangers.
Organize the shoes and toss broken ones.
Take a quick inventory of the shoes you have. See if any of them need to be repaired, and toss any that are damaged and can’t be repaired. You can arrange the shoes by category (e.g., everyday, work, special occasion, athletic/gym). Store away any out-of-season shoes (e.g., snow boots) if you no longer need them in the near future.
Set a 30-min timer and tidy any remaining items in the closet.
If you keep any other items in your closet that need to be organized, today’s the day. Or, if you need to catch up on the to-do’s from the previous days, try to do so today.

Week 3 (Bathroom)

Toss any expired skincare, makeup, and other products.
Start with anything that’s obviously expired. Look for the open jar icon on the products to see how many months they’re good for after opening.
Consolidate duplicates in the bathroom.
Combine half-used bottles of the same product into just one bottle. If you have many open bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and other toiletries, keep only one out and store the others in your bathroom storage. Use the open products first before opening a new one.
Organize the bathroom storage area.
Use containers to keep everything organized. Label all of them by category (e.g., shampoo, conditioner, skincare, makeup). Put the items you use daily at eye level or somewhere easy to reach. If you have lots of items in the bathroom, you can use a variety of organization items (e.g., stackable drawer organizers, cabinet door organizer, countertop makeup organizers, trays, drawer dividers).
Tidy the shower products area (e.g., basket, caddy, shelf).
Wipe the shower caddy, basket, or shelf. Rinse the bottles to remove any soap buildup. Place frequently used items front and center.
Organize towels and replace old ones.
You can turn old towels into cleaning rags or donate them to animal shelters. Replace towels that feel scratchy or thin. Fold or roll towels neatly when storing them.
Organize the bathroom cleaning products.
Get a caddy to keep all cleaning products together. Consolidate duplicates. Replace old sponges and cloths if needed. Toss empty bottles.
Clear the counters and return only items you use daily.
Try to limit things you keep on the counter to the daily essentials so that the bathroom looks tidier.

Week 4 (Kitchen)

Toss any expired pantry items.
Start with an easy decluttering win: tossing any items that are expired or no longer good.
Set a 20-min timer and organize the pantry as best as you can.
Group the items in the pantry by category (e.g., grains, snacks, baking supplies). If possible, put the items you use most frequently at eye level. Use containers to organize smaller items like granola bars or chocolate. If you’re pressed for time, just work on this for 20 minutes.
Tidy and organize the fridge, tossing expired items.
Remove things from the fridge and wipe the shelves. Return the items, grouping them by category. Use some refrigerator containers to organize smaller items like cheese or small condiment jars.
Sort through your spice containers and toss any stale ones.
Check if the spices are still good and toss any stale ones. Combine the duplicates into one jar. Create a list of ones you need to restock. And finally, organize them in a way that makes sense for you, with the most-used spices being easiest to reach.
Organize your food containers (toss/recycle stained containers or ones with missing lids).
Match lids to the containers. Toss anything that’s stained or warped, as well as lids without containers and containers without lids. Recycle what you can.
Organize your utensils (recycle/donate ones you don’t use).
Sort through your utensils, finding duplicates you no longer need. Give the ones you don’t need away and recycle or toss any broken ones. Place your most-used utensils in an easy-to-reach spot.
Clear the kitchen counters and return only items you use daily/very frequently.
Relocate countertop items you don’t use much from the counter to a cabinet. Only keep the items you need daily or frequently (e.g., coffee maker). Wipe the counters.
