Be More Present by Pausing, Listening, and Noticing the Sounds Around You With Our Planner

This evening, or when you can get a moment of quiet, pause and listen. Really listen intently to your surroundings.

You’ll be amazed at how some of the most mundane and overlooked sounds can bring you such a sense of calm and grounding. So many of these sounds pass us by unnoticed on a daily basis.

This activity is a great exercise in being more present. Even if you can only try it for a few minutes in your day, you can still get a lot from it.

Identifying Sounds Worksheet

  • A sound from outside.
  • A constant sound I rarely notice.
  • A sound that I find calming.
  • A sound from an everyday object or appliance that brings me comfort.
  • A sound in the distance.
  • A sound I hear randomly, not constantly.

Pausing and just listening can be a great way to start your day, finish your day, or take a break when you need one. The sounds you may hear, no matter how mundane, are a reminder of how, when you think about it, all we truly have is the present moment.
